2023.12 Lead Author Part 2 (copy 01)

🌀 6 BIG benefits of engaging as the "lead author" personally & professionally.

Hi there!đź‘‹

I hope you are enjoying the festive weekend! Easter is today, Ramadan, a month-long celebration, began March 22nd, and Passover began Wednesday night. I brought a large dark chocolate chocolate Easter bunny to the second Passover Seder to mark the occasion. This overlap of holidays happens every 33 years or so. And it’s also the second year in a row that it’s happened. Clearly, this is a time of alignment and connection on another level.

A quick recap of where we are:

Two weeks ago, we explored the concept of shifting our perception of life from happening "to us" or "for us" to life happening "through us" — as the lead author of our story.

Last week, we dove deeper into what I call the “perception spectrum” to examine how embracing your role as the lead author of your life can create profound impact — both personally and professionally.

This week, let’s walk through six BIG benefits of engaging as the “lead author”, both personally & professionally. 🚀

Before we proceed:

  • If you haven’t read the past two weeks, feel free to jump in now! If you find that this newsletter includes things you want to cultivate, then simply visit the last two editions to gain this powerful insight for yourself. ✨

  • If you have recently subscribed, welcome! These previous newsletters will be delivered as your journey unfolds. Feel free to reply to this newsletter if you’d like them sooner and I will forward them to you.

  • You can always refer to these three newsletters as you deepen your practice of alignment.

This subject matter of engaging as the lead author is a deep topic. The last two newsletters were lengthy. This week’s content is brief because of what we’ve already covered!

Given the festive weekend, I wanted to deliver this newsletter to you after you’ve had time to reflect, connect, and enjoy with family and friends. Perhaps you are in a space where you can see the benefits below already present in your life. Engaging as the lead author personally and professionally will help you realize these benefits even more — and with greater intention.

Below are six ways in which engaging as lead author deepens your alignment, connection, and impact. As we discussed previously, this is what happens when you shift to the perspective of life happening “through you” — rather than “to you” or “for you”.

  1. Balance: Embracing life as happening "through you" also involves finding a balance between taking responsibility for your actions and accepting that some events are beyond your control. This can lead to a deeper understanding of when to take charge and when to let go, fostering a sense of equanimity.

  2. Mindfulness: This perspective encourages you to be more present and mindful in your daily life, appreciating each moment as an opportunity to learn, grow, and make choices that align with your values and aspirations.

  3. Compassion: Recognizing that life happens through you can foster greater compassion for yourself and others. You can develop empathy for the challenges faced by yourself and those around you, realizing that everyone is navigating their unique journey, and each person is the lead author of their own story.

  4. Personal growth: Adopting this mindset can motivate you to continually seek personal growth and self-improvement, as you view your life as an ongoing narrative with opportunities for learning, self-discovery, and positive change. You’re never locked in to who you were.

  5. Gratitude: This perspective can help cultivate a sense of gratitude for the people, experiences, and circumstances that have shaped your life, acknowledging the valuable lessons and growth they have provided. It is the recognition that you have so much in your life that you have not directly created yourself.

  6. Legacy: Thinking in terms of life happening "through you" can inspire you to consider the impact of your choices and actions on the world around you, prompting you to reflect on the legacy you wish to leave behind and the positive difference you can make in the lives of others.

If you want to cultivate a perspective that acts like rocket fuel, propelling you to a better future while enabling you to more fully enjoy the ride, you’ve found it.

Let’s really drive this home. Going into this week, I offer the same questions as last week:

  • What would it look like to engage more as the lead author in each dimension of your life?

  • What would it look like to further embrace your role as an active participant and co-creator in your life?

  • And what would it look like to do this while also acknowledging the interconnectedness of your experiences with the people and circumstances around you?

And where does reflecting on this and action on this lead? A deeper sense of purpose, adaptability, and resilience by taking ownership of your life while remaining open to the influence and support of your co-creators.

Imagine what leading this way does professionally (from both a “culture” and a performance management perspective) — pure rocket fuel for lasting success and impact. 🚀

Until we meet again,Rachel
